Maciej Tubis is keeping the momentum. “So Us” is the third studio album (or fourth counting the special project released in August and dedicated to the memory of David Beigelman) by Tubis Trio in three years. Since the release of “The Truth” in 2017, the band has not stopped for a moment, while the quality of music has gotten even better. The band leader attributes this increased creative activity to the concerts: “We noticed that we really pep up when playing live and we wanted the new album to duplicate that very energy. The material was created very quickly, in less than a month, but we were well-oiled enough to create a coherent program for the album in a short time.
While the well-received “Flashback” (2018, AudioCave) seemed like a logical extension of “The Truth” (2017, Challenge Records), “So Us” is filled with surprises and fresh attitude. The new compositions sound extremely vivid and energetic – even more emphasis has been placed on rhythm and groove, but there are also infectious melodies that the trio is famous for. “I think that the shape of this new music is the result of the band’s natural evolution combined with the number of concerts we have played together” – Tubis continues. “The title of the album should be understood very literally. We wanted this album to be totally ours, in our style” – he sums up. Even though Maciej Tubis is again the author of all the pieces, their final shape is the collaboration of the entire trio. “As always, I brought some ideas that eventually took on their final form, but there was also one song that was completely rearranged only during one of the sessions. In the end, we always go where music leads us.”
